Local Information for Clovis, NM
The city of Clovis is located in the southeastern portion of Curry County in eastern New Mexico, in a region known as Llano Estacado. Largely an agricultural town, the city is historically known for its role in the early development of the rock music genre. Clovis is also the location of Cannon Air Force Base, a US Air Force facility located just seven miles southwest of the city.
Clovis is in close proximity to the Blackwater Draw, a dry stream channel where several artifacts of the prehistoric Clovis culture was discovered. Today, the site is a popular research and tourist destination.
The city of Clovis is predominantly an agricultural and ranching town, like most of its neighbors in east-central New Mexico and west Texas.
