Therefore, a family may be eligible for one PHA but not another. Formerly known as “The Farms”, the Northfields, and Brooksby, Peabody is now a city in Massachusetts with 51,251 residents (as of the 2010 census). As its former name suggests, this city began as a farming town, but soon became a major leather industry center. Although the tanneries are no longer in operation, Peabody has made up for the loss in other forms of economic development.
It is now an automobile manufacturing center and home to one of the region’s largest malls. The city also boasts of Centennial Park, an industrial park that has attracted and continues to attract medical and technology companies. It also features the Salem Country Club, with its professional golf course.
There are a number of good reasons to visit Peabody, or even choose to stay for good. West Peabody has been converted from farmland to a residential area for the middle- to upper-class communities. The city also offers a good selection of schools for your kids.
