Local Information for Waco, TX

Waco is a small city in the state of Texas that serves as the county seat of McLennan County. It lies along the Brazos River, an area originally inhabited by indigenous peoples.

During the late 1860’s, work on the Waco Suspension Bridge began, which was completed in 1870. Today, the bridge is open only to pedestrian traffic, as it is part of the National Register of Historic Places.

The city of Waco is the birthplace of the popular soft drink Dr Pepper. Invented in 1885 by a young pharmacist named Charles Alderton, the Dr Pepper Company is the oldest major soda manufacturer in the US. The Dr Pepper Museum is one of the city’s tourist attractions.
