Local Information for Hickory, NC

Hickory is a city in Catawba County, North Carolina. Originally named “Hickory Tavern” when the city was first established in 1863, Hickory was a town of many firsts. For instance, it was one of the first towns in the region to install electric lights and the first to have a complete sewage system.

The city is the location of Lenoir-Rhyne University, founded in 1891, the oldest private liberal arts institute of higher learning in Hickory. One of the oldest furniture manufacturers in the country, Hickory White (formerly Hickory Manufacturing Company), is also based in the city.

This small but thriving city is a recipient of the “All-America City” award three times already, the latest of which was in 2007. Hickory, North Carolina is indeed one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the country.
