Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC)

Affordable Housing (AH) or Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) is housing assistance for low income families but a PHA is not involved. HUD provides funding for rental assistance through Management companies instead of through the local PHA. Participants will generally pay 30% of their monthly income just as they do in the PH or HCV programs. Affordable Housing/LIHTC communities will have income limits just as the PH and HCV programs but AH/LIHTC communities are greater in numbers, have less restrictions on qualifying and have shorter or no waiting lists.
