Local Information for Arizona

The Grand Canyon State known as Arizona is one of the Four Corners states, which means it is located in an area where four states meet. Its northeastern corner mats with the Colorado’s southwestern corner, the northwestern corner of New Mexico, and Utah’s southeastern corner. Populated by mountain ranges, canyons, and a number of national forests, parks, and monuments, Arizona is one of the places in the United States that experiences extreme weather conditions of very hot summers and mild winters. In fact, it is home to several ski resorts.

Additionally, Arizona is also the home of some Native American tribes as part of the state features Indian Reservations. In fact, the Grand Canyon, a steep-sided canyon and natural wonder, has long been home to many of these Native Americans.

Arizona’s capital, Phoenix, is also its largest city. The second largest is Tucson, where the University of Arizona sits. Flagstaff, on the other hand, is quite opposite to the picture of Arizona that almost everyone. It sits on an area that’s elevated at about 7,000 feet, so it experiences snowy winters regularly. Any family will feel welcome in these Arizona cities.

Affordable Homes in Arizona

Raising a family in Arizona is made easier by the many options one has in obtaining affordable homes. If you decide to set up a home in Phoenix, for example, the Phoenix Housing Department can provide the financial assistance you need. The city has over 3,000 units of affordable housing and over 5,000 housing choice vouchers are available for individuals and families in need of them.

Decent and quality affordable housing in Tucson, meanwhile, is provided by the city’s Public Housing Program. This, however, is a low income public housing program and is not in any way connected with the Section 8 Voucher Program.

The main Arizona housing authority, however, is the Arizona Department of Housing. Along with the Arizona Housing Finance Authority, it assists residents and citizens who are looking for affordable housing options, especially those who come from low income families.

Rental Assistance in Arizona

The Arizona Public Housing Authority offers two Section 8 programs for its residents. The multi-family Project-Based Rental Assistance program is for very low to extremely low income households. Certain income parameters are set by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) every year. Under this program, a Housing Assistance Payments Contract is entered between the property owner and the HUD. Residents will receive assistance from the HUD provided that they are following lease terms and guidelines.

Arizona Public Housing Authority’s Housing Voucher Program, though, is intended only for residents of Yavapai County. First on the priority list is homeless veterans, but over 80 vouchers are also reserved for the general population.

If you are considering a home for your family in Arizona, it is important for you to get in touch with any of these housing authorities before making any final decisions. You may also look for rental assistance services or programs online, where you’ll get the chance to look at photos of available houses and view floor plans.
