Moreover, the Affordable Housing Coalition of South Carolina is a group that has for its primary objective to provide affordable housing for all South Carolina residents. This is done through education, forums, and action among its members to build and to have better housing options. The group, together with and supported by the South Carolina Housing Authority, is dedicated to the creation, preservation, and improvement of affordable workforce housing for all South Carolinians.  Founded in 1991, they are the only professional association in South Carolina representing all aspects of the affordable workforce housing industry.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program, or Section 8, is a federal government's program in aiding low income families and individuals. Participants are able to find and rent privately owned housing for the reason that the housing assistance is provided for on behalf of the family or individual. The grantee of the program has the freedom to choose any housing as long as it meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.

Not everyone is granted Housing Choice Voucher; only eligible applicants are qualified. The eligibility is based on the following qualifications: total annual gross income, family size, and it is limited to U.S. citizens and specified categories of non-citizens who have eligible immigration status. The one that will determine the eligibility is the Public Housing Agency (PHA).
