Local Information for Dover, DE

Dover is the capital city of the state of Delaware and the county seat of Kent County. Located along the St. Jones River in the Delaware River coastal plain, the city is home to less than 40,000 residents, though it is the second largest city in the Blue Hen State, after Wilmington.

The city of Dover has a relatively low cost of living. As a result, it is currently one of the fastest growing municipalities in Delaware. It is the home of the Dover Air Force Base, which houses two airlift wings and the country’s only military mortuary in the continental US.

Kraft Foods and Procter & Gamble are among the top employers in the city as both companies have manufacturing facilities based in Dover. The city is the only state capital, today, that has a volunteer fire department.
