HUD sets Income Limits for each area based on the median family income in that area. Each Public Housing Agency (PHA) will use the Income Limit set for the jurisdiction that the PHA covers. Therefore, a family may be eligible for one PHA but not another. The number of people in a household determines the Income Limit that is set for determining the family's eligibility for the program that they are applying for. It was New Amsterdam resident Jan Peeck who first made contact with the natives of Peekskill, New York and got into agreements that was formalized as the Ryck’s Patent Deed of 1684. It was then that the area was named Peeck’s Kil (Dutch for “stream”).
Today, Peekskill is a diverse community with plenty to offer its visitors and residents. When you go for a visit, you’ll quickly discover why it is now emerging as the “foodie capital of the Hudson Valley”. Other than the food, there’s a lot more to enjoy, such as world-class jazz in an intimate café, shows at the historic Paramount Hudson Valley Theater, and the interesting beauty of their Artist District.
Residents – a healthy mix of races – benefit from a relatively low crime rate and unemployment rate. Employment opportunities mostly come from the construction industry. Educational needs are addressed by 20 preschools, 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 3 high schools.
