Local Information for Nevada

Nevada, also known as, “The Silver State”, is situated between two mountains, the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada in the western side of the county. The word itself is derived from the Spanish term that means “snow-covered”.  Most of the state physiographically belongs to the Great Basin, a plateau that is distinguished by remote mountain ranges, divided by arid basins.  It ranked number 7 in terms of land area, of which 85% is federally owned. The controversial Area 51 is a part of it, near the little town of Rachel.

The state of Nevada has more mountain ranges than any other states in the US and at the same time has a number of vast lakes and sinks or salt water marshes.  Having a sunny and dry climate and with the lowest precipitation level, Nevada is the driest state in the United States.  Still, snowfall is heavy in the mountainous areas, which make it conducive to a lot of winter sports activities such as skiing and hunting. Visitors will surely have a lot of options when visiting Nevada even during winter season.

Carson City is Nevada’s capital. It is the center of trade in terms of mining and agriculture, while tourism industry is also constantly in boom. A lot of people, usually visitors, go to Nevada regularly to have a vacation at Lake Tahoe. It is labeled as the “sky-high” lake straddling the Nevada-California juncture in the rugged Sierras.  Visiting ghost towns is also another famous activity, other than fishing and boating around Lake Mead, the Pyramid Lake, and the Walker Lake.  Nevada is also home to the spectacular manmade landmark called Hoover Dam. Las Vegas and Reno are two other famous cities in Nevada that also popular.

While price rates for apartment deals in Nevada vary from city to city, it is good to know that it is only the primary communities located near Las Vegas that have a cost of more than $1,000 monthly fee. Other significant cities such as Pahrump, Carson City, Winchester, and Reno also offer quite a few options on affordable housing and apartments at even lower rates than that in Las Vegas.

The State of Nevada also has a lot of subsidized apartment and even apartment with paid utilities. HUD also offers assistance to apartment owners to minimize their rental fees, especially if they belong to the low-income earner category. There are just plenty of apartment deals to choose from and even foreclosed properties to look at.  This is indeed a great bargain deal since these are sold at nearly half of its original value.

Nevada offers the Section 8 or Housing Choice Voucher, which was specially created to assist low income families and individuals in finding an affordable and presentable home to rent or own.
