Nevada, also known as, “The Silver State”, is situated between two mountains, the Rocky Mountains and the Sierra Nevada in the western side of the county. The word itself is derived from the Spanish term that means “snow-covered”.  Most of the state physiographically belongs to the Great Basin, a plateau that is distinguished by remote mountain ranges, divided by arid basins.  It ranked number 7 in terms of land area, of which 85% is federally owned.
